When I read “How to raise a Wild Child” by Scott Sampson, the term EMU stuck with me. I loved the acronym for Experiences, Mentoring, and Understanding. The book is filled with stories, research, and practical advice. When I joined Tinkergarten, the teaching approach seemed aligned with EMU and I continue that approach with Open Spaces classes. We explore and experience the world through all our senses, we can mentor or be mentored by those around us, and our understandings grow with those experiences and mentoring.
